The Ruhr River Basin in Germany was affected by heavy rains in 2021, causing a series of disasters, such as floods and mudslides. The rainfall caused by the storm system in 18 hours is almost the usual rainfall in two months. The scale of the flood shocked climate scientists around the world because they directly linked this event to man-made climate change. In view of the above extreme climate, I carried out a design for the lower reaches of the Ruhr River, in order to reduce the impact of rainstorm on the river, city and ecology.
